Unfortunately the Brita filter has earned a poor reputation for lasting the distance. It's price performance ratio is better than Aqua-Pure, however falls far short compared to  Aquasana AQ-4000.  See specification comparison above.

Glossary of contaminants

  1. Chlorine - Added to our our supply by government agencies. It is a necessary service as it kills harmful, even deadly living matter in our water supply. However, it is advisable to eliminate it right before use. Chlorine has been linked to several health problems (cardiovascular illness and cancer) and cosmetic effects (dry skin and hair).
  2. Lead - Enters through plumbing. Well-documented risks to health especially children include brain damage.
  3. Cysts - Living organisms in water. Can cause different illnesses and diseases of varying severity.
  4. THMs (trihalomethanes) - form when chlorine combines with living matter. Linked to cancer.
  5. VOCs (volatile organic compounds) - Carbon-containing chemicals that can vaporize quickly. Often breathed in, they cause skin irritation, drowsiness and respiratory problems.
  6. Lindane - Comes from insecticides. May contribute to cancer, heart disease and toxicity of many organs.
